82% of Arsenal fans oppose takeover

82% of Arsenal fans oppose takeover

The results of a survey* carried out by AISA have shown overwhelming opposition to a takeover from either of the Club's two largest shareholders, Stan Kroenke and Alisher Usmanov.

Only 6.4% want Usmanov to gain control, and Kroenke fared little better, attracting support from just 11.2%.

82.4% of those polled said they wanted the current situation, with no individual in overall control, to continue.

A second question asking about the Arsenal Board's "strategy of living within our means" rather than looking for significant investment by a rich owner, produced similar results, with 80.4% backing the existing way of working.

There are 62,219 issued shares in Arsenal. Following acquisitions this week the Club's largest shareholder, Stan Kroenke, has control of 18,594 shares - 29.885% of the total. The 30% threshold is breached at 18,666 shares so if Kroenke purchases a further 72 shares he’s required to bid for the remaining shares at the highest price paid in the previous 12 months, £10,500, which he paid on 1st May 2009.

* 685 fans took part in the internet survey carried out in October/November 2009 by the Arsenal Independent Supporters' Association.
